Tasting Notes

Ravenswood Barricia Zinfandel
Sonoma Valley

The Zinfandel from this vineyard has been revered by every winery that has made wine from it. The majority
of Barricia is an old, low-production vineyard in a special location in Sonoma Valley. Due to the age of the vines and the dry farming practices,
the crop level on these vines is low and the vine vigor minimal. This, of course, leads to very intense
wines. Additionally, the thickskinned nature of the grapes and the predominant tannins work to maintain
the perfect balance between fruit and structure.
The 2006 Barricia is likely the most perfumed wine of the Single Vineyard Designates, eliciting ethereal
qualities on the nose. It will strike lovers of claretstyle wines with its Cabernet-like structure and form.
Possessing a wow of spice and having characters of blackberry and cassis, this wine will bring out the
best flavors of your typical California cuisine—grilled chicken, smoked barbeque, and other fresh and
organic foods. It has a long, firm finish that assures a vital future for this wine.
