Tasting Notes

2006 SMALL PARCELS SPITFIRE SAUVIGNON BLANC, MARLBOROUGH

“The saying 'good things come in small parcels' applies to wine too. Every vintage we discover
small parcels of exceptional grapes and with a little luck and a lot of work, we craft them into
unique wines that express terroir, as well as the viticulture and winemaking skills and the careful
nurturing by my team. The very best of these wines are bottled for our Small Parcels range.”
– Kim Crawford, Winemaker

The wine derives its name from the vineyard, the Delta, where the grapes come from – the land
was used as an air force training base in World War II. It is seldom that a single vineyard gives
us a full spectrum of flavors to make a complete wine.
When optimum ripeness was achieved by the viticulture team, these grapes were machine
harvested without preservative and immediately processed. Cold settled for 36-hours, the juice
was then racked and inoculated with yeast. Temperature controlled fermentation harnessed the
vitality of the Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Once dry, the wine was stabilized and bottled.

Appearance Pale straw with hints of green.

Aroma Hugely aromatic and intense with nettle, sweet grapefruit and tropical notes, which are
underscored with the typical herbaceousness.

Flavor Powerful palate with sweet dry herbs, gooseberry and tropical fruits. Full flavored,
the wine’s inherent sweet fruit characters are dried nicely by the alcohol and acidity. Great
longevity of flavor.
