2007 3 Blind Moose California Pinot Grigio
Tasting Notes
Bright, delicate, white flower, ripe pear and
tropical fruit aromas introduce awesomely
delicious peach flavors that jet-ski into a crisp,
refreshing finish. Enjoy this lively, fruity wine
outdoors on the patio while playing a rousing
game of Moosical chairs.
Vintage
The moose dreamed up a spectacular vintage in
2007, and it actually happened. A mild winter
with below-normal rainfall, coupled with a dry
spring, led to early budbreak. A sparse berry set
in spring produced loose grape bunches with
small berries. Temperate summer weather, with
a well-timed heat spike in August, kick-started
our early harvest of ripe, flavor-packed PG
grapes. Accolades have ensued since, and
now we are herding medals.
Vineyards
Most of the fruit came from vineyards in the
Lodi region of northern San Joaquin County in
California. We’re not sure why they arrived in a
Creedence Clearwater Revival pickup truck
with moose in back singing “I Heard It
Through the Grapevine How Much Longer
Will You Be Wine?”, but there you have it.
Winemaking
To beat the rain and keep things
fresh, we night-harvest our ripe,
juicy Pinot Grigio grapes between
late August and early September.
The pristine whole grape clusters
were pressed directly to stainless
steel tanks and the pure, delicate
juice chilled before being cold
fermented to extract every morsel
of flavor.
Our 2007 Pinot Grigio saw no oak –
“oak is a joke,” the moose like to
say – but it does reside in a bottle,
because the moose know it’s
uncouth to sip directly from the
tank. Plus they love recycling.
