2007 3 Blind Moose California Chardonnay
Tasting Notes
Dazzling golden straw color that requires
sunglasses to truly appreciate. Aromatics of
ripe stone fruit, citrus and nuttiness. The
mouthwatering complex flavors are lively with
fruits and spice, finishing round and balanced
with a refreshing texture.
Vintage
White grape quality was above average this
year. The 2007 growing season on the Central
Coast and Monterey County was challenging.
The winter was cold, delaying the onset of
budbreak and flowering by one to two weeks.
The winter and spring were also exceptionally
dry, with about half the usual rainfall, so
berries at many sites tended to be small. The
overall harvest was consistently healthy, small
grapes with concentrated flavors and lively
acidity. As summer approached, temperatures
remained cooler on the Coast, while the spring
and summer months inland were warm with
only a few days above normal. There was a
cool spell in mid-September that slowed
ripening of red grapes.
Vineyards
Carefully selected from California vineyards.
The majority of grapes were sourced from the
Central Coast and Lodi appellations, with the
balance coming from Monterey County.
Winemaking
We fermented our show-stopping
Chardonnay and made it in two
dierent ways: in temperaturecontrolled
stainless steel tanks and
in French oak to keep it fresh and
pure, while adding depth and
toasting overtones from the oak.
Though the days were chilly and
wet, the grapes soaked up the rain
and developed to optimal maturity
in spring and summer, basking in
the California sunshine. The moose
were pleasantly surprised by the
ripe stone fruit, citrus and nutty.
